Product details
Custom made for Swallowfield by Jen’s brother Peter’s company, Smathers and Branson, the MDI Navy Leather Belt is an iconic accessory for everyone. Beautifully hand-stitched, with full grain Italian leather and solid brass hardware makes this belt a lasting investment. 1.25" width To find the most accurate belt size, simply add 2 inches to a men's pant waist size. If the recipient is an odd pant size (33, 35 etc.), add 3 inches to the pant size to obtain the correct belt size. If they wear multiple pant sizes, use the largest size to calculate the correct belt size. This formula works best for chino style pants. If the recipient typically wears designer denim or low rise pants, you may need to add 3-4 inches to the men's pant waist size. If that is the case, we encourage you to review measuring instructions found below on this listing to find the correct belt size or you are welcome to call the shop and we would be more then happy to help!
Sizing Made Simple:
The easiest way to determine a Smathers & Branson belt size is to add 2-3 inches to a man's pant size. If the recipient wears multiple pant sizes, use the larger size and add 2-3 inches. To determine the correct belt size, we recommend using chino style pants and not denim or athleisure wear.

Optional Measuring Methods:
If you are still uncertain about selecting the correct size, we recommend following the measuring instructions, see below.
Option 1: Measuring Your Belt Size with a Tape Measure
- Wear the pants the belt will be worn with, and measure through the belt loops.
- Pull the tape taut, like a belt.
- Round to the nearest inch: ex. 35’’-35.5’’ = 35" and 35.6"-36’’ = 36". This number will be the ideal S&B belt size.
- If in between belt sizes, round up—our belts fit better when slightly larger.
- Works for both men and women.
Option 2: Measuring Your Belt Size with an Existing Belt
- Use a belt with a prong style belt buckle.
- Measure from the start of the leather to the most worn hole (use the larger hole if multiple are worn). Follow the curve of the belt.
- If the buckle is longer than 1.5", add 1/2" to the measurement. No adjustment is needed for buckles 1.5" or less.
- Round up to the nearest inch: ex. 35.1’’-36’’ = 36". This number will be the ideal S&B belt size.
- If in between belt sizes, round up—our belts fit better when slightly larger.
- Works for both men and women.
General Information
A size 36 Smathers & Branson belt will measure 36 inches from where the leather starts to the center hole. Please note there may be some slight discrepancies in length due to the handmade nature of our belts.
Our belts have 5 holes, each 0.75’’. The buckle is 1.5’’ long.
Over time leather belts can stretch. A new belt may wear more snuggly than a belt that has been repeatedly worn.
